I thought we had a "no Youtube" rule for the Deep Madder blog.
Anyway, I agree about Charlie Brown/Peanuts. Up until 5 or so years ago, my view of Peanuts was pretty negative (I viewed it as boring and generic as Garfield).
But then I kept on reading Seth and Chris Ware and others talk about how emotionally resonant and such the comic was, so I picked up one of the re-released volumes of the early strips a few years ago and really loved it. Particularly with the early stuff, it's crazy how blatantly melancholy much of it is.
I (we - Alex and I have discussed this before) feel that they don't really fit this blog. Video posts are generally kind of superficial and devoid of much content, and occasionally a little annoying. While obviously Deep Madder posts aren't always extremely insightful or enlightening, posting videos seems too simple and easy. Plus, we try to post things that we'd like to see, and I personally very rarely watch the videos people post on Isle of Bile (or any other blog, for that matter).
It's also an aesthetic preference: We wanted to remove ourselves from, for instance, the look Reelcblodg had developed, which was post after post of purely videos and/or pictures.
And yeah, it is less "personal" and requires less effort to just post a video.
However, I deemed this video a rare exception to the rule: I needed to post this video because, especially at the beginning, it's so amazingly unconventionally emotional and moody or whatever (especially for a kid's show), but I thought that it definitely fit into the Deep Madder spirt of content more than Isle of Bile.
By the way, I find it very odd that you've seemingly never seen A Charlie Brown Christmas until now. That's even weirder than having never tried poutine by age 24.
I think I've seen pieces of it in my youth, but like fifty years ago and shit. So I haven't really seen it because I was too young and stupid to really see it back then.
Easy: why the hell would I have tried poutine? No one ever eats poutine, in my experience. maybe in high school or something, Brady ate poutine or something like that. but you make it sound like it's everywhere I look. I NEVER hear about poutine or see it available at restaurants or anything.
I still find that difficult to believe, about the poutine. It was so strange to me when I took you to eat fries and gravy in Ottawa and it was like, a revelation to you.
This is Canada! Poutine is even a standard menu item at fast food establishments! It's in school cafeterias! It's everywhere!
This was fun to watch with you! Here is the article I was talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_(Peanuts)#555_95472
ReplyDelete(weirdly I initially spelled "about" as "abought!")
Also, I think you would like knowing about the "Little Red-Haired Girl" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Red-Haired_Girl
